Duration: 1 / 2 years
SNAB is a course with its own distinctive philosophy that uses a context led approach with topics based on contemporary issues. SNAB aims to turn A level students into biologists who are not only armed with knowledge of biological principles but have the skills to use them in new situations. For the AS course, students will study lifestyles, transport, genes and health in unit 1 and development, plants and the environment in Unit 2. In the A2 course, Unit 4 comprises the natural environment and species survival and Unit 5, energy, exercise and coordination. Both Unit 3 and Unit 6 involve practical, research and investigative assessments. All students have the opportunity to attend a field trip to the Netherlands at the end of the first year and take part in a biodiversity expedition to South Africa at the end of the second year.
Qualification explained
A-Level courses are divided into two parts. In the first year you will study two units of a subject leading to an AS (Advanced Subsidiary) qualification. In the second year, you can take a further two units at A2 in the same subject to gain a full A Level. (In some subjects, the courses are divided into 3 rather than 2 units at AS and A2.)
