Course Content : AS Level
This course will compromise of two units of study
Unit 1 involves the study of core geographical concepts along with contrasting themes of contemporary or environmental impact, management and sustainability. Students will study the core and then one physical option and one human option.
The core sections are:

- style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class="MsoNormal">Population change
The physical option will be chosen from Cold environments, Coastal environments and Desert environments. The human option from Food supply issues, Energy issues and Health issues.
Unit 2 is a geographical skills paper based on the content of Unit 1. The skills include investigative, cartographic, graphic, ICT and statistical.
Course Content : A2 Level
Unit 3 will have an issues based approach to contemporary geographical themes. Students will study three topics. One will be a physical option and one human option.

Weather and climate and associated hazards
Ecosystems: Change and challenges
Optional Human topics:
World Cities
Development and globalisation
Contemporary conflicts and challenges
EITHER
Unit 4A Students will have the opportunity to extend an area of the subject content into a more detailed fieldwork study.
OR
Unit 4B Students will have the opportunity to use their skills of analysis, synthesis and evaluation. An Advance Information booklet will be pre-released to enable students to research into the particular issue.
Method of Assessment
Year two:
Unit 3: Contemporary Geographical Issues
30% of the A Level marks. Structured short and extended questions and an essay. 2.5 Hours.
Unit 4A: Geographical Fieldwork Investigation or Structured short and extended questions based on the students' own fieldwork investigation. 20% of the A Level marks. 1.5 Hours.
Unit 4B: Geographical Issue Evaluation 20% of the A Level marks. Structured short and extended questions. 1.5 Hours.
Year one:
Unit 1: Physical and Human Geography 70% of AS marks. Structured short and extended questions. 2 Hours.
Unit 2: Geographical Skills 30% of AS marks. Structured skills and generic fieldwork questions. 1 Hour.
Progression
Students with the full A Level may wish to progress onto higher level courses.
