Module 3 - Pathogens & Disease
Module 4 - Centre Assessed coursework
Advanced level biology has been designed to be accessible to a wide range of students. Fundamental biological concepts are taught (such as cell biology, form & function, environmental biology) alongside more specialist areas such as health and disease, human reproduction, growth and ageing.
A wide variety of teaching styles is employed including practical exercises, written assignments and critical discussion. The wealth of medical information currently available on the internet is also examined.
Human Biology is recommended for those students intending to enter the sports, health and biomedical professions: but of course it can simply studied out of interest. Human Biology provides an opportunity to gain practical skills, mathematical skills and opportunities for team working. Within the subject, moral, ethical, social and cultural questions are addressed.
Course structure:
Chemistry, Mathematics, Psychology and Sports Studies provide popular choice combinations. Human Biology may form part of a predominantly Science program or be used in conjunction with the human and social sciences (Psychology, Sociology etc.) Human Biology A level can lead to a wide range of degree courses e.g. Biomedical sciences, Physiotherapy, Nursing Studies, Child Studies. Biology and Human Biology together are a prohibited combination.
