Our new range of liberal studies degrees provides a true US-style liberal arts education, a first in the UK. In your foundation year you undertake a general education programme which provides a comprehensive foundation for your degree studies. From the first year of your degree, you choose a ‘major’ subject area whilst taking a range of ‘electives’ to tailor your degree to match your passions and interests. Every module in our liberal studies programme has been specifically designed for the degree, delivering you a broad-based education which engages you in critical and interdisciplinary thinking. Liberal arts graduates are well-prepared to make the most of opportunities in a fast-moving global economy. The Political Science major offers a thorough grounding in the main theoretical concepts used in the field. You will also be introduced to the political institutions and cultures of many different countries. Through combining theory and practice you will develop analytical skills which will assist them in solving problems, understanding complex issues and develop policies. You will develop a wide and deep knowledge about the complexity of the political world and how to approach it as well as learn how to formulate arguments with examples drawn from contemporary events as well as academic theory You will have opportunities to participate in and attend conferences, as well as take part in international conferences. About this course

Study methods Our lecturers come from diverse backgrounds and cultures with vast experience and knowledge in their field. Our programme puts strong emphasis on learning from experience, with outside activity complementing the work in class. You will participate in conferences, take part in the Model United Nations and attend seminars given by influential politicians and policy makers. You can also make use of all the resources that London has to offer. For example our students, by an exclusive arrangement, are eligible for a substantial discount on membership ofthe Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, with its captivating meetings and rich academic resources. Course programme

Majors / pathways

This is an American-style Liberal Studies programme that incorporates an area of specialisation (a major), a general education programme which all students take in their first year providing a broad foundation for your degree, plus electives chosen from a wide range of subject areas to be taken alongside your major.

There is a major project in the final year of study which enables you to open out the specialist area of your major to the breadth of your learning on the whole programme.

It is also possible to undertake a dual major or one or two minor subject areas alongside your major from other subjects offered within the overall programme. Majors, minors and elective classes are offered in the following subject areas:

Study abroad

In addition to studying in London, you will have the opportunity to participate in an exciting term spent studying abroad. This provides you with a unique opportunity to explore a diverse range of topics offered by other institutions and gain international experience. This term takes place in Year 2 and replaces the second term of your Regent's degree. For more information see the study abroad section.

Please note that an optional study period abroad always take place during degree level studies and is not included in your foundation year.
