2. Course description Can't draw? Want to draw? This is an ideal place to start. Subjects covered during the course will include dealing with the basic principles of life drawing, using measuring techniques, plotting negative spaces and learning composition.Also 'gesture drawing' will be covered. These are short studies of the figure, drawn rapidly to capture the essence of the pose. Throughout the course learners are encouraged to develop their own style. Teaching is on a class and one to one basis. Learning goals are:To recognise simplified geometric forms within the body.To demonstrate an understanding of the body shape and its proportions.To learn and develop quick drawing techniques.To enjoy the drawing experience and have fun.

3. Entry requirements The course is for all abilities: both beginners and improvers. If learners have not drawn the human figure before then there is no need to worry as full support is given throughout the entire course.We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. Please let staff know if you require any extra support when you enrol and they will arrange for a member of the Supported Learning Team to contact you to discuss your support needs. Surrey Adult Learning values and supports equality and diversity by promoting fairness and respect at all times. 4. Equipment required Drawing paper - size A1/A2 and an A1/A2 flip chart or other cheap paper is needed for quick drawings. Charcoal of mixed sizes, pencils, putty rubber/eraser, bulldog clips or masking tape for the board, Tissue or kitchen towels. Other items learners may wish to use later in the course could include inks and pastels, although these are optional and can be discussed during the class. 5. Assessment method Not available
