As a service technician you would be involved in a variety of tasks including servicing and tuning, replacing components, using specialist equipment to measure performance and making adjustments, diagnosing and locating faults, carrying out road tests and more besides.
You will have the opportunity to work in small independent garages or a large main dealership. On the advanced apprenticeship, youll learn about more complex faults and how to identify and repair them using sophisticated diagnostic equipment.

Course programme

In order to achieve a full Apprenticeship you must successfully complete the different parts of the framework over 18 to 24 months. This consists of sector related industry qualifications: Competence qualification Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Competence Knowledge qualification Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles Light Vehicle Diagnostic Technician Carry out light vehicle maintenance and inspections including servicing, diagnosing, repairing and replacing faulty parts and maintaining records. Functional Skills qualifications Level 2 Functional Skill in English Level 2 Functional Skill in Maths Level 2 Functional Skills in ICT Employment Rights and Responsibilities Personal Learning and Thinking Skills Apprenticeships give you the opportunity to work for a real employer, earn a real salary and gain a real qualification whilst gaining valuable workplace skills and experience. A wide range of assessment methods are used both in the classroom environment and workplace. Evidence reflects how you have carried out the process relating to your competence. One day a week in your chosen campus (Keighley or Printworks Campus) is spent in college learning the theory and basis of application in a supportive learning environment.
