Day:
Tues and Thurs

Time:
6-9pm

Cost:
230

Duration:
20 weeks

Content:
Approximately 20% of the Scottish population has a hearing loss. Hearing loss is a communication problem, which effects all people.
Lipreading is an essential aid to communication for many deaf and hard of hearing people. Lipreading uses looking, listening and thinking skills. A successful lipreader will not only be able to follow conversation, but will enjoy being able to communicate effectively.
As a tutor of lipreading, you will find that there is more to lipreading than just reading lips.
Using a variety of techniques, the tutor will:
- coach their class on lip shapes and speech movements
- show how to recognise lipreadable voice patterns
- help develop lipreading.
They will also introduce new aids and equipment for deafened people, discuss outside agencies and organisations that are available for help and support, share information on relaxation skills and coping strategies, learn more on the psychological and social effects and the causes of deafness.
