Course Modules English Legal System & Skills:

This module provides an introduction to the legal and court systems of England. Students consider the validity of the use of juries and the ways in which judges interpret the law. Skills relating to presentations, writing and debating are introduced

Contract Law and Problem Solving:

This module covers the requirements for a valid contract to be formed and the ways in which contracts can end. Students learn about the remedies which can be provided by the courts and the application of the law to various situations.

Torts and Civil Remedies:

An introduction to the law relating to civil wrongs including the tort of negligence and the ways in which a claim can be brought to the courts. Students consider the use of various remedies including damages/compensation.

Law in Society:

An introduction to current legal issues and basic legal theories. Students will look at current areas of change in the law and discuss the impact of legal change on society.

Criminal Law:

Students learn about the ways in which citizens are held to be criminally liable and the requirements for the state to bring a charge against a person. Different crimes and their elements and the development of the criminal law are considered.

Course overview The single honours LLB degree taught at Worcester Law School and awarded by Staffordshire University will provide you with a study of Law, which meets the requirements of the legal profession (the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board) to provide exemption from the academic stage of training. The LLB also provides exemption from the academic qualification part of the Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX). The degree has been designed to encourage you to think critically about the law and to develop your skills in research and communication. It is, therefore, not simply about training students for careers in the legal profession.The LLB is also an excellent qualification for a whole range of careers, including: paralegal, finance, commerce, education, management consultancy, business management and HR roles. Entry requirements 80 UCAS points or equivalent. Applicants without formal qualifications are encouraged to apply and will be considered on an individual basis.
