About this course
Applicants will normally hold an undergraduate degree in any subject with a minimum pass of 2:2, or equivalent overseas qualification, or an appropriate professional qualification. Some background knowledge of law is useful , but a degree in law is not essential.

Course programme
International Human Rights Law – explores the birth of international human rights thinking and the struggle to balance competing rights. You will also examine the international legal system and human rights legal system
You will also select elective modules which might include:
- Social Justice & Human Rights
- International Child Law
- European Convention on Human Rights
- International Humanitarian Law
- International Law
- Negotiated Study
- Freedom of Religion, and the Rights of Minorities in International Law
- Gender & Sexuality in International Law
- The Protection of Refugees in International Law
Dissertation
You must also undertake a dissertation, providing an invaluable opportunity to work in depth on a particular aspect of the law. You will need to apply and enhance your technical knowledge and critical awareness in a subject of your choice. In order to obtain the LLM in International Human Rights Law your dissertation must have an international human rights theme.
Note: All modules are subject to change in order to keep content current.
Teaching and assessmentThe LLM is studied by distance learning and is fully assessed by coursework and a dissertation. The distance learning mode involves optional attendance at Leicester De Montfort Law School, for a maximum of ten Saturday study days during the period of study. The course is structured in a way that allows you to exit at one of several points, if desired, each with a postgraduate award.
