Manufacturing engineers apply scientific principles to the production of various products. The range of products include: automobiles, airplanes, tractors, electronics, surgical instruments, toys, building products, sports and recreational equipment etc. In all the cases, manufacturing engineers design the products with the required functionality, to high quality standards at the best possible price and in ways that are environmentally-friendly.
The Department started M.Tech in "Design and Production of Machine Tools" in the year 1966 and it was renamed as Manufacturing Engineering in the year 2000. In the first two semesters the students study relevant core courses and a good number of elective courses. The electives permit one to choose his/her area of interest within the broad spectrum of courses .The laboratories are equipped with state of the art equipment to impart necessary hands-on practice. Last two semesters are dedicated for the dissertation work relevant to the course.
