Course programme
The MA Comparative Celtic Histories is designed to provide students with advanced tuition in their chosen field, and research training suitable for the effective completion of advanced research projects. This MA provides students with an opportunity to develop a comparative understanding of the history, politics and social conditions of the Celtic countries and regions of the British Isles (and where appropriate, beyond), and the different contexts in which those histories can be understood. A major focus is the interactions between these countries and regions within the British Isles but attention is also given to a consideration of the European and Atlantic dimensions to the histories of these places and peoples where appropriate. Students take a core module in semester 1 and an option module in semester 2 plus 60 credits of research training across both semesters in Part 1, and write a 20,000 word dissertation in Part 2. Students who complete Part 1 only are eligible for a Postgraduate Diploma. Students may take some of their modules through the medium of Welsh where available (see MA History of Wales/ Hanes Cymru for details).
