Module: 7VC004

Credits: 20

Period: 1

Type: Core

Locations: Wolverhampton City Campus

In this module you will develop critical and contextual skills. Taking a thematic overview you will be introduced to key ideas that have affected the development of the arts. The lecture series will be centred on three pivotal 'moments' of cultural history in the West - pre-modernity, modernity and postmodernity. These are significant to the development of art and design currents. The evolution of design ideologies and processes will be mapped along this trajectory. How has technology impacted on the way we think about design, in terms of its processes and artefacts.

Module: 7VC006

Credits: 20

Period: 1

Type: Core

Locations: Wolverhampton City Campus

In this module you will further develop your critical, contextual and theoretical skills by drawing on a number of different theoretical frameworks that are pertinent in art and design. The module content is oriented around ideas or themes that are central to the study of art and design and one of the central concerns is about the relationship between the material and the digital in all stages of the creative process from the idea-formation stage to the process of making and to the production of the artefact. The module will explore the synergy that exists between the material and the digital. The changing nature of artefacts has also affected the way we use and interact with them and methods of interpretation beyond the merely visual will be interrogated.
