Course programme
The MA Eighteenth-Century Britain is designed to provide students with advanced tuition in their chosen field, and research training suitable for the effective completion of advanced research projects. This MA scheme enables students to further their study of eighteenth-century British history. In the British Isles this period saw religious revival, intellectual advancement, political ferment and economic transformation, and students will have the opportunity to examine these themes both at a micro-level - England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales - and at the macro-level of the British empire and Atlantic World. Particular attention will be accorded to the political upheavals that shaped the modern age - the American and French Revolutions - and their impact upon Britain's component 'nations'. Students take a core module in semester 1 and an option module in semester 2 plus 60 credits of research training across both semesters in Part 1, and write a 20,000 word dissertation in Part 2. Students who complete Part 1 only are eligible for a Postgraduate Diploma.
