About this course

The programme focuses on theoretical and practical questions concerned with educational uses of technology for teaching and learning in formal and informal educational spaces. Accordingly, the programme comprises basic concepts in, frameworks for, and approaches to the educational uses of technology. Students are encouraged to draw from their personal and professional experience as much as possible to develop their own understanding, clarify misconceptions, raise further questions, and expand our knowledge on various matters related to the educational uses of technology. Our aim is to develop sensitive and critical students who can deconstruct debates and rigorously articulate their own perspectives. The design of the programme benefits from both independent and collaborative learning principles: students pursue their own interests while working with and learning from their peers within a cohort.
The MA in Technology Enhanced Learning has a strong research ethos. The research-driven nature of the programme allows students to develop their own voices and research skill sets targeted at contemporary developments in a broad field of technology enhanced learning. A dedicated module introducing a variety of research methods and approaches helps students with applying these new skills to their own practice in a small tutor-supported research project. This individual study module is carefully designed to give students practical experience of research and prepare them for their research dissertation.
The programme also provides elective modules on specialised topics, including: The Principles of Collaborative Learning; Cultures, Globalisation and Education; and Policies, Ideologies and Interventions in Education. Students can gain in-depth knowledge of their chosen topics that are of particular relevance to their personal or professional interests.
