About this course

Maths and English GCSEs at grade D (3) /E (2) or higher or an equivalent qualification are ideally required. In order to be selected for this apprenticeship, you will need to have a passion for working in a hands-on environment within this exciting trade. Finally, you must have the drive to complete the demands of the apprenticeship course and become a skilled worker. You will also need to demonstrate commitment to learning while working and spending 20% of your working hours completing off-the-job training.

Course programme

Year 1

The Intermediate apprenticeship programme will require you to complete a Building Maintenance Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations NVQ Diploma level 2. It covers a range of skills including carpentry and joinery; painting and decorating; wall and floor tiling; plastering; roofing or trowel occupations such as bricklaying or stonemasonry, allowing individuals to work as multi-skilled operatives upon completion of the qualification. You will learn the theory behind specific tasks and also the practical elements within the construction workshop. You will also complete an NVQ of competency within the workplace.
You may also be offered additional support to complete functional skills if you haven’t achieved a level 1 qualification in both maths and English.

Additional information

Your practical work will be assessed within the college environment via direct observation. Your theoretical knowledge will also be assessed through a series of online exams. You will have a dedicated Trainer Assessor that will support you to complete your NVQ portfolio through a range of assessment methods.
