Wherever you work, whatever your skill level, our course, with its comprehensive syllabus will help you add the finishing touches to your bank of practical knowledge. Our course will also give you the chance to show what you can do with your existing experience and skills and receive acknowledgment and accreditation for it.

Entry Requirements:
In our experience in order to be successful on this level of course you will need one of the following:
• four GCSEs at grades D-F (including English and maths)
• a BTEC foundation diploma in a related subject
• an NVQ Level 1/technical certificate in a related subject
• successful completion of the Gateway/Newstart course
• successful completion of the E2E/Prince's Trust course
• equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

Business Benefits:
The qualification would benefit experienced building maintenance staff who require registration for the 'Construction Skills Certificate Scheme' (CSCS) card.

Course Overview
What does the course involve?:

You must achieve five mandatory units plus five optional units from group A and four optional units from group B.

Mandatory units:
• store resources ready for use
• erect and dismantle working platforms
• contribute to efficient working practices
• complete works for handing over
• develop customer relationships.

Optional units:
Group A (any five units from the following ten)
• repair and renew wood components
• repair and renew basic plumbing components
• renew floor and wall tiling
• renew sink and sanitary appliances
• renew rainwater components
• repair and renew fencing components
• install and renew ironmongery
• prepare surfaces and apply paint systems by brush and roller
• renew small areas of wall covering to non complex locations
• repair proprietary wall and ceiling components

Group B (any four units from the following ten)
• erect and dismantle access platforms (up to five meters high)
• repair masonry
• repair plaster finishes to walls and ceilings
• repair slate and tile pitched roof coverings
• repair and replace concrete slabs and paving
• renew drainage components
• repair rendering to vertical surfaces
• repair glazing installations
• repair proprietary flashings at roof junctions
• repair floor screeds.

Are there any exams?:
Visiting assessors will work with you to gather the necessary evidence to complete the qualification in the workplace. Training may be provided where appropriate.
