About this course

You should:

* Have 2 A Level passes at grade C or above supported by passes in 3 subjects at GCSE grade C or above or equivalent awards.
* Have a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (recommended).
* Have a minimum 240 UCAS tariff points.
* Have IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent if English is not your first language.

Preferred subjects include Art, Design, English, Drama and Film Studies. You will need to need to present a portfolio of artwork at your selection interview. Applications from mature students are welcome.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in providing make up and prosthetics for performance then this highly creative, specialist course may be for you.

Structure

Taught by practising film and TV make-up artists and designers, this course fosters your practical understanding of make-up, hair and prosthetics to a high level. Specific vocational skills developed throughout the course include make-up design, development and application for film, TV and theatre, historical wig dressing, sculpted wig construction, hair-styling, pastiche as well as advanced prosthetics and accurate casualty make-up.

Cultural Studies will introduce you to different perspectives of performing arts, visual and fashion imagery. Design is centred on the development of processes and ideas, including the interpretation of text into designs for film and theatre. Your understanding of make up and prosthetics for performance is deepened with the second year industry linked project. This includes work on film sets as well as work on theatre productions. In addition, the Performance Project in your third year showcases your ability against the expectations of a professional theatre environment and will showcase your work to potential employers.
