Manual Handling Induction Assisting People to Move

This is an awareness raising course designed for new employees. Those who will need to provide mobility assistance for people will need to acquire further skills. These can be made available through a number of sources e.g. HME's Foundation Course, qualified in house trainers. It is expected that such training will be provided as appropriate.

Course includes:

  • Legislation and the employer's policy
  • Risk assessment
  • Structure and function of the spine
  • Causes and effects of injury
  • Principles for safer moving and handling
  • Practices that are considered controversial when assisting people to
  • Range of equipment available to assist people to move and who to refer to for guidance on selecting and using this.
