Are you going to be assessed on your manual handling capabilities? Our specialised assessment course will allay your fears to give you a thorough grounding in manual handling principles. We will focus on the risks involved, the legislation that applies and suitable available controls so you can review yours and others' work activities.
Progression:
On completion of the course, you can progress to other courses including:
• basic health and safety level 2
• principles of COSHH
• risk assessment principles and practice level 3
• review health and safety in the workplace level 3
• investigate accidents and incidents in the workplace
• supervising health and safety.

There are no specific entry requirements. However, you will be able to go through an informal telephone interview with the tutor to assess your suitability for the course for you.

Course Overview
What does the course involve?:
By the end of the course you will be able to:
• explain what is meant by the term 'manual handling' and give examples
• explain how manual handling can cause injury and give examples
• state the principles for controlling manual handling risks and apply these in a practical context
• demonstrate an understanding of the main provisions of the manual handling operations regulations.
When can I study?:
Various days, 9.00am - 12.30pm
Are there any exams?:
A certificate will be issued at the end of the course as evidence that the student has successfully completed the CIEH principles of manual handling certificate. There will be a multiple choice question paper where the student must achieve 20 correct answers to pass the examination. A student who fails to gain a pass mark in the examination will be allowed to resit on submission of an appropriate fee.
