About this course
The candidate should be suitably employed within the engineering industry, and be dedicated and committed to their study. Applicants will be required to attend an interview where they will also be required to sit a paper based trade test and basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy. Candidates should also have 4 GCSEs (grades A*-E), or equivalent, including English , maths and science.

Course programme
This course is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful employee within engineering manufacture. Learning through practical and theory sessions at the College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve a level 2 in a specific trade or technical field.
The Manufacturing Engineering Intermediate Apprenticeship course combines developing your practical and theoretical skills at College, together with experience gained in the workplace.
What will I learn?
Manufacturing Engineering Intermediate Apprenticeship core units may include:
The initial PEO training consists of the following three units:
- Working Safely in an Engineering Environment
- Using and Communicating Technical Information in Engineering
- Identifying and Selecting Engineering Materials
Optional PEO units:
- An choice of two from 32 units, i.e. Machining/Fitting/Assembly
OR
- VCQ (NVQ) Level 2, to support the Machining/Assembly/Maintenance trades
As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT.

What next?
Possible progression to an Advanced Apprenticeship. Career pathways may include progression within technical and craft support roles, in industries where engineering processes are used.

Considering an apprenticeship?

You can apply for both an apprenticeship, and a full-time course as your back up,
but note that you will need to do some research to find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice
if you do not already have one.
