The radio operator, also known as a radiotelegraph operator, is the operator responsible for radio communications on ships or aircraft. The name derives from the Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi. He is responsible for the operation of radio equipment, telecommunications and all ship communication and communication services between the airport base and the airplane (pilot). In more recent times, the radio operator's activity on board the aircraft has been detected and integrated with other functions related to flight by the flight engineer. The radio operator's activities include: rescue services, urgency and safety regarding the safety of navigation and human life at sea, radiomedical service, reception and transmission of messages with other ships and aircraft or with port and airport authorities, recording of messages , broadcasting and radio printing service, communications with the ship's command on all notices received. Since the seventies the radio operator's activity has been enriched by the use of the typewriter to transcribe the morse translation first manually performed on the notebook. This has been happening since the 1970s in the barracks that prepare the conscripts assigned to this service.
