  • Understand key aspects of marine environments! Build a knowledge of marine life and ecology, whether for work or general interest. The first two lessons deal with marine environments (weather, nutrient cycle, reefs, shallow and deep water environments, etc). Lessons 3 to 8 deal mostly with marine animals, particularly more complex animals, and the last lesson considers human impacts upon marine environments. More....

  • Extend your knowledge of marine environments! This distance learning course follows on from Marine studies I, extending your knowledge of a wide variety of marine organisms. It works through many types of marine organisms, focusing mostly on those not covered as well in Marine Studies I (This includes: Protists, Sponges, Marine plants, Cnidarians, Worms, Arthropods, Molluscs, Echinoderms, Non Bony Fish, Selected Bony Fish and selected Marine Mammals).More....

6 Industry Project I BIP000

  • The completion of an Industry Project or Work Experience are necessary components to complete in order to satisfy our qualification requirement. There are two options available to you to satisfy this requirement:

    Alternative 1: If you work in the industry that you have been studying; you may submit a reference from your employer, in an effort to satisfy this industry (ie. workplace project) requirement; on the basis of RPL (ie. recognition for prior learning), achieved through your current and past work experience. The reference must indicate that you have skills and an awareness of your industry, which is sufficient for you to work in a position of responsibility.

    Alternative 2: If you do not work in the relevant industry, you need to undertake a project as follows. This project is a major part of the course involving the number of hours relevant to the course (see above). Although the course does not contain mandatory work requirements, work experience is seen as highly desirable. This project is based on applications in the work place and specifically aims to provide the student with the opportunity to apply and integrate skills and knowledge developed through various areas of formal study.   • Develop your ability to collect, collate and interpret data and prepare reports in ways relevant to the work environment - Monitor and evaluate your own work in order to develop a responsible attitude to workplace performance and quality assurance - Determine areas where there is a valid need for research which are relevant to area of study - Explain research methods, including experimental techniques, commonly used in your discipline - Understand of the basic statistical methods used for research - Locate, collect and evaluate information for a specific research purpose - Prepare a research report in a format which conforms to normal industry procedures. 8 Research Project II

  • Build on your foundation research skills. To further develop the student's ability to monitor, analyse and evaluate a common process (or processes) relevant to their stream studies. (For the purpose of this unit, a "process" is defined as any distinct series of events or changes over a period of time, and which is directly related to the area of study).
