Why take this course? Faced with today's highly challenging global economy, the need for effective marketing is greater than ever. Develop a range of skills such as creativity, critical analysis, problem-solving, team-working, and communication to meet the demands of customers. This degree will provide a firm grounding in all aspects of modern international marketing and prepares you for employment in this dynamic sector. First year marketing students have won a national competition organised by educational publishers Pearson on behalf of RED - a charity which raises money to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Africa. Students were asked to write a marketing plan, create a promotional video and suggest a manufacturer for a product aimed at university students. The Portsmouth team chose a hand sanitizer by Purell because a co-branded RED version would be a popular product among students. Not only did the team get to go to New York to be presented with a cash prize but they’ve given their CVs a turbo-boost and have the satisfaction of knowing their efforts will help raise funds for an excellent cause. Working effectively in a group is certainly a skill to master for the workplace, which is why students are exposed to opportunities and challenges throughout their course to engage in live business projects and competitive activities.
