Areas of specialisation

Course Aims And Objectives

The need for developing special skills in carrying out objective and systematic environmental audits is growing rapidly as companies prepare for ISO14001:2004 and EMAS. This IEMA-approved online and blended Environmental Auditors Training Course has been designed specifically for members of in-house company environmental teams or management consultancies and Certification Bodies who wish to develop their skills and knowledge of the Environmental Management System Audit process.

The Eco-Management And Audit Scheme (EMAS) requires that an internal environmental audit should be conducted at regular and defined intervals by an environmental auditor. This person or audit team member must be sufficiently trained and proficient in the specific skills of environmental auditing.
The International Standard for EMS (ISO14001:2004 ) requires that audit protocols and procedures are followed so that the performance of the EMS can be assessed. Training-needs of environmental audit teams are obviously of prime importance. This course provides delegates with the ability and confidence to ask the right questions, to evaluate environmental information and to undertake effective environmental audits that meet the requirements of the international auditing standard (ISO 19011).

A combination of concise lectures and presentations will be made together with group and individual exercises. Delegates will be divided into environmental audit teams who will work on a Case Study. An EMS Audit will be undertaken as a simulated exercise. Slides, plans and other aids will be available and at the end of the course each audit team will present the findings to the other groups.

The course therefore provides comprehensive EMS Audit training for a wide range of delegates who are able to contribute to the course and provide additional input from management systems expertise through to technical environmental input.

Description

Our company developed it's expertise in HSE management systems during the early 1990's when environmental issues were still a new concept for business to understand. Input into the developing standards was given for the Printing and Packaging working party on BS7750 which was the fore-runner to ISO 14001.
John Marsden developed the business in response to the environmental legislation and concerns that related to environmental issues in general. He specialised in the development of ISO 14001 within companies and specialised in auditor training courses. He ran the first approved courses in Brazil in the mid-1990's which was quickly followed by visits to many countries of world to present the new course to industries and businesses that required his knowledge of how to audit HSE management systems.
Countries visited included Brazil, Poland, China, India, Taiwan, Philippines, Madagascar, Denmark, USA, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Singapore, Russia, Indonesia and Bulgaria. Partnerships with local providers were developed and many courses have been delivered through these partner organisations. A major United Nations project was delivered in Sri Lanka which involved several visits and courses in order to develop and improve the environmental performance of a pilot group of 10 businesses. John Marsden was the project manager and was personally involved in running the consultancy and environmental training provision.
In 1999, Marsden International developed skills in Health & Safety and now provides the Lead Auditor course in OHSAS 18001, film and DVD production for clients, consultancy services and auditor training courses at company premises.
