The masseur is a professional expert in the practice of massages: a very ancient manual treatment, which consists in the application of friction and pressure on the soft tissues of the body, mainly to relieve pain, relax the muscles, reduce stress, promote relaxation and psycho-physical well-being. A masseur can practice different types of massage, according to the characteristics and needs of the client. In fact, there are many forms of massage, with different objectives: draining, decontracting, anti-inflammatory, toning massages, to improve blood circulation, for complete mental and physical relaxation, and many others. The client is laid on a massage table or on a mat and the manipulations are performed in a precise sequence, following the direction of the muscle fibers or that of the circulation. Among the main movements of the massage are light and deep brushing, friction, superficial and deep kneading, pulling, twisting the muscle, squeezing, vibration and percussion. The treatments are performed with the hands, fingers and other parts of the masseur's body (forearms, elbows, knees, feet ...): practicing massages therefore requires considerable physical effort. Handling is often facilitated by the application of oils, creams or ointments, while in some cases the use of specific mechanical or electrical devices is required. However, it is important to distinguish between therapeutic and non-therapeutic massages.
