The one-and-a-half-year Master of Animal Science is designed to create professionals who can meet the modern demands in animal industries. Rapid growth across genetics, biotechnology, conservation biology, reproduction and nutrition has resulted in a need for updated skills. We provide advanced technical training in a tightly focused area of animal science – genetics, nutrition or reproduction, biotechnology and animal production – so that you stay at the cutting edge of the technological and scientific innovations that are rapidly developing across the field.
Our diverse range of subjects will give you advanced specialisation in a variety of industries including poultry, wildlife, pig, aquaculture, dairy, companion and pedigree animals, sheep and beef. And, the strong research focus of the course means that you will have excellent experience in leading a scientific study from beginning to end.
The postgraduate Animal Science program (which includes the nested degrees at Masters, Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate level) opens up careers in animal science, research and a range of animal industries. Our graduates go on to work in diverse locations with production animals, companion animals and wildlife.

Course programme
This degree offers specialisations (streams) in animal genetics, nutrition or reproduction. Students will normally take two core units specific to their specialisation and two-six elective units of coursework in addition to their research project units of study. Under certain circumstances, core units can be waived with the permission of the Academic Supervisor.
