The School of Fashion offers four MA degree programs. They are Design, Costume Design, Fashion Journalism, and Fashion Merchandising. The MA in Fashion and the MA in Fashion Design Emphasis degrees offer courses that include a wide range of design areas including textiles and knitwear. Studio courses hone the graduate candidate's mastery of fashion industry standards in design and construction, enhancing design excellence with computer skills, and preparing MA candidates to launch themselves into the industry upon graduating.

Graduate students will meet the following student performance criteria:
Design
Conduct research to develop their creative concept and build a visual story
Demonstrate good understanding of their market
Create advanced flat technical specification drawings by hand and by computer
Design collections demonstrating a sophisticated understanding of fashion design and advanced technical skills
Communicate their design ideas 2-dimensionally using traditional and/or digital media
Professional Practices
Produce a cohesive portfolio tailored to reflect career goals
Academy of Art University Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the Academy of Art University will demonstrate the ability to:
Produce a body of work suitable for seeking professional opportunities in their chosen field of art and design.
Solve creative problems within their field of art and design, including research and synthesis of technical, aesthetic, and conceptual knowledge.
Communicate their ideas professionally and connect with their intended audience using visual, oral, and written presentation skills relevant to their field.
Execute technical, aesthetic, and conceptual decisions based on an understanding of art and design principles.
Evaluate work in their field, including their own work, using professional terminology.

Learn the professional skills and behaviors necessary to compete in the global marketplace for art and design.
MA Fashion Degree Requirements
Successful completion of Final Portfolio Review
Minimum grade of C in all required 36 units
Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and the following Academic Study requirements:
1 Art Historical Awareness & Aesthetic course.
