COURSE VIDEO Take your career to the next level – Advanced learning for registered nurses 2:55 The Master of Cancer and Haematology Nursing aims to assist nurses who care for people affected by cancer and haematological illness to develop their knowledge and skills for their care. You will investigate the biology of cancer and haematology, associated treatments, and integrated multidisciplinary management. You will acquire knowledge about all aspects of the prevention, diagnosis and management of cancer, future treatment trends and the exploration of the impact of these illnesses on the individual, family and community.



With the increasing trends towards both home-based care and towards intensive treatments such as Stem Cell Transplantation, the course provides a broad range of content across a diverse spectrum of cancer and haematology care and explores broadening roles for nurses in cancer and haematology care. Nursing interventions to reduce the impact of cancer and its treatment are addressed, drawing on research and the theoretical underpinnings of cancer and haematology care.

Study plan

The Master of Cancer and Haematology Nursing may be completed over three semesters full-time or five semesters part-time. The course consists of 60 credit points (cp), including core units of study (48cp) and a capstone (12cp). In the first year, students complete 48cp of core units of study, which include four specialty-specific units for the cancer and haematology courses. Students will undertake a work-based project or a research project as a capstone experience (12cp) and will study part-time in the final semester of their candidature. Following academic consultation, students wishing to undertake the Capstone (Research) may substitute NURS5071 with a research unit offered by the University.
