Course description, features and facilities The Master of Exercise Science will expose students to advanced level units within the various sub-disciplines that are informed by the latest research developments and contemporary professional practice. These sub-disciplines studies may include: clinical, sport and occupational biomechanics; exercise physiology; motor learning and control; sport, exercise, health and coaching psychology; physical activity promotion; and sport and recreation marketing and management.
In addition to learning cognitive skills, several units involve advanced technical and measurement skills developed through tutorials and laboratories. Most units offer opportunities for students to plan, prepare and conduct small research projects, and then analyse these data and report findings in both written and oral formats. Skills in literature searching, synthesising the results of these published papers and comparing one’s own data within this context are embedded in many units of study.
Students must nominate a specialisation. The Master of Exercise Science has two specialisations:
Sport and Exercise Science
This master's program is aimed at students wishing to undertake advanced study or research majoring in one of the sub-discipline areas within exercise science. There is a choice of postgraduate units within biomechanics; motor control and development; exercise physiology and biochemistry; health behaviour and performance psychology and exercise rehabilitation.
Sport and Recreation Management
This specialisation focuses on developing knowledge and skills in the area of management and marketing within the sport and recreation industry.

S1 = Semester 1; S2 = Semester 2; NS = non-standard teaching period
All units have a value of six points unless otherwise stated.
Previous specialisations in a) Biological science and b) Behavioural science are no longer relevant; hinder the progress of students; and cannot be used to obtain ESSA accreditation as an Exercise Physiologist.
Specialisations changed to a) Sport and Exercise Science; and b) Sport and Recreation Management.
