The Master of Health Communication degree program delivers core media skills to help you become an effective communicator across health and medicine, public affairs, public relations, community relations and journalism.

Designed for aspiring and experienced communicators, health advocates, public relations specialists, media experts, and healthcare professionals, the Master of Health Communication encourages skills development in:



− clear communication of public health campaigns and policy topics

− creation of public education programs that nurture a more healthcare-literate population

− the ability to raise awareness of, and advocate for, specific healthcare matters

− management of communication technology, including social media, to ensure information accuracy and uphold ethical standards

Course programme

Study plan To qualify for the award of the Master of Health Communication a candidate must complete 72 credit points, including:
(a) a minimum of 24 credit points of core units of study; and
(b) a maximum of 42 credit points from elective units of study. With the permission of the Degree Coordinator a maximum of 12 credit points can be taken as elective units from units of study outside those listed in the Health Communication subject area of the Postgraduate Unit of Study Table, including a maximum of 6 credit points from units of study offered by other faculties.
(c) at least 6 credit points of capstone units of study.
