Course description, features and facilities The Master of Health Science with a specialisation in Neuroscience.

The multidisciplinary discipline that is neuroscience is the study of our nervous system, how it develops, how it is built, how the nerve cells communicate with each other and how this eventually leads to perception, consciousness, emotions and intelligence. The study of neuroscience is of crucial importance to understand human behaviour. It is one of the fastest growing disciplines in basic science with novel and exciting new discoveries made on a daily basis.

A third of hospitalisations in the western world are neuroscience related, such as those linked to psychiatric problems, stroke and car accidents. The neuroscience specialisation would provide an excellent background for anyone interested in pursuing a health-care career either in allied health, research, or policy and advisory functions.

In this specialisation you will explore multiple aspects of modern neuroscience including the complexities of how behaviour, thought and emotions are produced. You will study the integration between the central nervous system and hormonal systems and its importance for behaviour. You will study the processes and mechanisms of brain development in order to gain an understanding of the neurodevelopmental origin of disease for example in schizophrenia and depression and you will be able to gain in depth understanding of the variety of research tools used in modern neuroscience.
You must nominate a specialisation on application. The Master of Health Science has specialisations in:

Exercise and Health
Human Biology
Neuroscience
