This course is suited to applicants who either have an interest in both Mathematics and Computing or applicants who would like to study a Mathematics related university course, but do not have sufficient experience to undertake a specialist Mathematics degree. The course covers a wide range of topics from Computing including Web Development and Programming, as well as core Mathematics topics and those immediately applicable to industry and commerce such as Operational Research.

On successful completion of this course graduates will be eligible to undertake a year and a half course to top-up to a BSc (hons) degree.

Demonstrate a range of transferable skills in: problem solving; communication; project management; working individually and in teams; self management ; and the ability to gather, evaluate and reflect on information from relevant sources to requirements in the domain of applications of computing and mathematics.

Apply a full understanding, knowledge and experience of the principlesof mathematics (e.g. core techniques, calculus and linear algebra, operational research) to the analysis, design and synthesis of solutions to problems which require mathematics for their resolution.

Apply essential concepts, principles, theories and practices currently used in the computing industry (e.g. systems support and management, network engineering, web development).

Identify and apply appropriate theory, tools and techniques (e.g. practice of programming, data systems, design and construction of web systems, networks) to requirements in the domain of computing.

2019 Entry

A-Level minimum of EE or C to include a Science or IT based subject.
BTEC QCF Diploma grade PP, BTEC QCF Subsidiary Diploma grade M.
Access to Higher Education Diploma requires candidates to accumulate 60 credits, at least 45 of which are at Level 3.

Course programme

Semester 1 Level 4, you will study Introductory Programming and Problem Solving, Website Fundamentals, Academic and Employability Skills.

Semester 2 Level 4, you will study Practical Projects, Fundamentals of Statistics, and Mathematical Software.

Semester 1 Level 5, you will be study Statistical Methods, Calculus and Linear Algebra, Database Systems.

Semester 2 Level 5, Mathematical Analysis, Operating Systems and Computer Architecture, Collaborative Development, Professional Experience and Development, Basic Language, Elementary Language.
