Course programme

Radboud University offers seven specialisations in Mathematics. The specialisation you choose could have everything to do with what inspires you to do maths whether that’s pure mathematics, taming randomness, or its applications to physics, computer science or societal challenges.

  • Algebra and Topology
This specialisation strongly focuses on the latest research developments in the field of pure mathematics, of which algebra and topology form two essential pillars.
  • Applied Stochastics
This specialisation offers high-level training in statistics and the modeling of random processes for applications in science, business or health care.
  • Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science
You’ll come to understand the fundamental mathematical concepts of computation and information in order to explore the potentials and limits of computer science.
  • Mathematical Physics
In this specialisation, you’ll work at a frontier of mathematics that intersects with cutting edge research in physics.
  • Science in Society
This specialisation will equip you with the tools and skills to become a professional intermediary between science and society. You’ll learn to analyse (governmental) science communication and connect scientific knowledge with divergent perspectives and interests of various stakeholders.
  • Science, Management and Innovation
This specialisation will teach you what is happening in the world of business and public administration, how innovation is managed in company strategies, how government designs policy and how that interacts with societal challenges.
  • Science and Education (in Dutch)
Do you want to become a secondary school teacher in the Netherlands? In this Dutch-taught specialisation you’ll get the necessary didactic background and extensive experience in the classroom.

The boundaries of these specialisations are not clear-cut. As with all aspects of maths, they’re related and interlinked. The specialisations interact, and you’re able to profit from knowledge and experience of our experts in the neighbouring specialisations. Our programme gives lots of freedom to choose your own courses taught by the best mathematicians at not just Radboud University but at universities all over the Netherlands, thanks to the Mastermath collaboration.
