As a student on the MMath Mathematics, you will learn about a wide range of practical and modern applications of mathematics. The knowledge and skills that you will acquire during the programme are highly valued by employers and will form a sound background for further postgraduate study. The programme will provide a strong grounding in advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical thinking and will cover many modern applications of mathematics e.g. internet security, risk modelling, decision making, finance, social networks and scheduling. You will undertake individual and group research projects. These will be excellent preparation for a career in industry or for further research. Your problem solving and analytical skills will be developed at all stages of the programme. Furthermore, our active focus on employability will assist you in acquiring important communication and team working skills. Accreditation The MMath (Hons) Mathematics has been accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications to meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation.

Recent graduates from our undergraduate mathematics programmes have gained employment in a wide range of fields such as internet technology, the pharmaceutical industry, accounting, banking, the civil service, and teaching. We have graduates who are mathematical modellers, logistics trainees, business analysts, quantitative analysts, statistical analysts, actuaries, marketing executives, operational risk managers, and data scientists.
    Furthermore, the MMath Mathematics is ideal for those wishing to pursue a research career either by working towards a PhD or by working in industry. The programme also offers the option of doing a sandwich placement after the second year, providing students with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience. Students in their third year of study also have the option of doing a weekly work placement in a school, which is an ideal taster for those thinking about teaching as a career. We have direct active links with employers and each year some of our successful graduates are invited to return to speak about their careers and experiences.
    Specialised equipment Lecturers provide materials for the courses they teach. We have excellent computer laboratory facilities with a vast collection of general software as well as specialist mathematical and statistical software which is used within the programme.
