The term mechanic indicates those who work in the tertiary sector as a repairer or settler of machines, in particular of moving parts of cars, motorcycles and motor vehicles in general. It can complement its business with the resale of fuel and tire inflation and balancing. It can carry out its business as the owner or as an employee of a workshop. Over time, the repair activity of motor vehicles, hand in hand with the technical evolution, has changed considerably and the mechanic has become, more than a repairer, a substitute for the worn or damaged part. On the basis of a 1996 Financial Times survey, scientists in the field have found that a replacement price is obtained for the end user, four times higher than the production price. The mechanic works in a mechanical workshop, a work environment where construction, repair and mechanical processing takes place. Over the course of time, this work environment has given rise to the craft shop, the laboratory and the industrial workshop.
