Overview This course provides broad-based knowledge of the latest technological developments in mechanical engineering:Internal combustion enginesRenewable energy and alternative fuelComputational fluid dynamicsGas turbine engineeringVehicle engineeringComputer aided design. You will be trained in structured design process using the latest version of industry standard CAD tools; CATIA, Ansys, Cambridge Engineering Selector (CES), Fluent and solid work.
Our cutting edge academics deliver modules in mechanics, structures, dynamics of structures, materials, fluids, thermodynamics and mechatronics. These modules are designed to improve your knowledge in science and technology, but they also help to develop transferable skills such as communication, team work, leadership, multi-tasking, planning and management. These important skills will help you to become successful in your future career and initiating new innovative technologies.
The course requires that each student completes a research project which will:Focus your research interestsDevelop your report writingEnhance your presentation, critical thinking and analytical skills.
There are a wide range of project areas to choose from which include materials, energy conversation, compressors, expanders, energy efficient vehicle technologies and appropriate technologies. These projects are often the result of a collaboration between our students and either local, national or global companies.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics has international reputation for the excellence of its research which is funded by many national and international bodies, including the Royal Society, the Leverhulme Trust, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), Technology Strategy Board (TSB), Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP), European Research Council (ERC) and European Commission (EC).Scholarships, bursaries and prizesThe School offers generous...
