There are a wide range of project areas to choose from which include materials, energy conversation, compressors, expanders, energy efficient vehicle technologies and appropriate technologies. These projects are often the result of a collaboration between our students and either local, national or global companies.

Course programme

Course Content

This course develops the broad skills and knowledge base required by mechanical engineers and provides a platform for career development.

City's internationally-recognised Research Centre for Energy and Transport has excellent computational and experimental facilities which cover all topics including several modern test facilities for experimentations and advanced optical/mechanical instruments for different diagnostic methods. Completion of modules and examinations will lead to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma. The completion of modules, examinations and dissertation will lead to the award of a Masters degree. Specialisations include computer-aided design, energy systems and management, combustions, IC engines, screw compressors and expanders, experimental techniques, mechatronics and dynamics of structures.

Teaching and Assessment

Teaching

The course is taught by staff from the School of Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering and some external industrial experts. Teaching methods include lectures, tutorials and seminars. Throughout the programme, teaching and learning strategies are designed to encourage independent self study and teamwork, creativity and critical thinking.
