Climate change, global warming, and pollution control present some of the greatest challenges to the world’s inhabitants. There is a huge body of evidence which suggests that increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide are responsible for damaging the health of the planet and its ecosystems. Consequently, a key priority of many governments is to stop and reverse the general trend in increasing levels of pollutants and in particular, the levels of carbon dioxide.
To meet the increasing global demand for energy with the growing global population while reducing the risk of damage to the environment or contributing to global warming, it is important to decrease our dependence on coal and other fossil fuels and increase renewable energy in the energy mix.
This course addresses the fundamentals of renewable energy and shows how solar, wind, and bioenergy and other such energy sources can be efficiently integrated into power systems with a focus on Mechanical systems.
During your first year, you’ll follow a programme of learning that closely mirrors our other engineering degrees. This is to ensure you have a solid grounding for the coming years. In subsequent years you’ll then study our specially developed mechanical engineering and low-carbon related modules.
