This highly vocational programme has been developed through extensive consultation with employers to deliver the skills and competencies that industry really needs. This is a new approach to higher education, integrating academic and applied learning within an industrial context. Consequently our graduates are well placed to secure exciting opportunities within the sector as design, production or project engineers at technician engineer level. Many past students are now employed by major companies such as EDF Energy, Westinghouse (Springfelds Fuels Ltd), BAE Systems, Airbus. NIC, GEC and Ford Motor Company as design, production, project or research and development engineers. Others have continued their studies by progressing to a relevant Master's degree programme.

Course programme
This programme aims to develop a clear understanding of the principles and skills involved in mechatronics, including the underlying mathematical and scientific principles, system design and operation, and the ability to analyse and model mechanical systems. An awareness of health and safety issues also features, as does an overview of the engineering business together with an introduction to the overarching processes and techniques for use within both the private and public sectors. The course provides the general transferable skills required for employment in this specialised field.
