Course programme

Year 1

The Access course covers the main university requirements for study of creative media at degree level. You will study four main subject areas: film and video production; still photography; producing artefacts; and study skills all at level 3. These are comprised of 60 credits at level 3 including nine credits of study skills.

Applicants should be 19 plus by no later than the 31 August prior to starting the course. You will need to have five or six GCSEs at grade C or above (grade 4/5), including English and preferably maths, depending on the degree course you wish to apply for. It would be preferable if one of the GCSEs is a media- or art-based subject. A portfolio demonstrating skills in one of either photography, video production, or design is desirable. In order for you to progress on to an undergraduate degree at a British university, it is essential to have achieved a minimum of a grade C in maths and English. It is your responsibility to check the GCSE grade profiles of the universities that you are interested in applying to and to attend a number of university open days. It is also important to have vocational experience at the beginning of the Access programme. A satisfactory reference will be required. .

Additional information

You will be assessed via a range of written assignments, reports, practical assignments and controlled in-class assessments.
