About this course

At least 4 GCSEs at grade D or above or an equivalent qualification. You should have the willingness to explore new ideas. You will be asked to provide a portfolio of evidence. This can be in any of the media areas including any art and design based subject.

Aim This exciting course enables you to start building the technical skills and knowledge needed for the media industry. It will give you the opportunity to study a range of media areas in film, animation, games, graphics, photography, web design, TV production and media writing such as film scripts and news paper reports.
Content The course is made up of three core units plus four specialist units.

You will:
· Learn how to create basic animations
· Learn how to use audio and video equipment for TV and film production
· Gain an introduction into the recording and music industry
· Gain an understanding how the media industry works and target audiences.

Assessments are continuous throughout the course. All units studied are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is given.

Additional Qualifications Compulsory
Level 1 in Photography

Progression/career opportunities This course will give you the skills and knowledge to progress onto other Level 3 courses such as games design, interactive media, music technology, TV and film production, graphic design, photography, IT practitioners or AS/A levels.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
