About this course

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above is required.



Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.

Course programme

Year 1

This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the make-up industry. You will study the following: working in the film, TV and theatre industries; the creation and presentation of a look book and an industry portfolio; fashion and photographic make-up; media make-up creative hair design; creative historical hair and make-up; apply body art; camouflage make-up; specialist bridal hair and make-up; cutting and styling techniques for performers; avante-garde hair and make-up; and media make-up blogging.

Additional information

You will be assessed informally during your course leading up to formal assessments. These will be an externally-set and externally-marked written exam and an externally-set, internally-marked and externally-moderated assignment. The synoptic’ assignment is a practical-based assessment which will require you to identify and use a selection of skills, techniques, concepts, theories and knowledge you have gained throughout the year.
