Media Studies AS/A2 Level

You will analyse texts to find hidden meanings and then put what you have learned into practice and produce media products for yourselves, including a film opening, a music video, a digipak, a print advertisement or a website.

You will be discovering who produces it, who consumes it and what messages and values are found within it. In addition, you will study media industries, such as film or music, and explore how they function and use new technology.

• You must satisfy the general entry criteria for A Level courses, which are based on your GCSE results.
• In addition, you must achieve at least a grade B and a grade C in at least two written subjects e.g. History, Geography, Humanities, English Literature, Business, Religious Studies (full course), English Language.

International students:

• Equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered.
• IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each skill) or equivalent.

Assessment is partly through practical coursework, but mostly through written exams. Successful completion of the first year gains you an AS Level in Media Studies. Successful completion of the second gains you an A Level.

Taken as one of three A Levels, this course will allow you to study Art and Media-related courses at universities and Higher Education institutes.
