Our Medical Engineering & Physics MSc is an award-winning programme taught by leading scientists and academics who have played a central role in the evolution of medical physics, medical engineering and clinical sciences. Delivered by more than 30 core lecturers. All of them are full members and fellows of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) and many are leading national and international specialists
The majority of our students are employed during the first year of graduation. More than 70 per cent continue to work in healthcare and some are already established as leading specialists. The majority have been employed in the NHS; some have also been employed in leading academic institutions and industry.
Minimum 2:1 degree in a physical or engineering science or equivalent.

Course programme
Courses are divided into modules. You will normally take modules totalling 180 credits.
Required Modules
- Healthcare Science and Research Methods (30 credits)
- A research module (worth 60 credits).
Choose one module from the following:
- Introduction to Medical Physics (30 credits)
- Introduction to Clinical Engineering (30 credits)
Choose one module from the following:
- Radiation Physics for Imaging and Radiotherapy (15 credits)
- Biomechanical and Clinical Measurements (15 credits)
Choose three modules (totalling 45 credits) from a range which typically includes:
- Radiotherapy Physics (15 credits)
- Medical Imaging with Ionising Radiation (15 credits)
- Medical Imaging with Non-Ionising Radiation (15 credits)
- Radiation Safety (15 credits)
- Rehabilitation Engineering (15 credits)
- Management of Medical Equipment (15 credits)
- Medical Engineering Design and Software Development(15 credits)
