Content:
Students are introduced to medical terms on an on-going basis. Extensive use is made of medical dictionaries, reference books, textbooks, anatomical diagrams and videos.
Students are encouraged to improve accuracy and fluency of pronunciation by constant reinforcement of reading medical material.
The unit has 3 outcomes:
1 use an extensive medical vocabulary within the context of body systems;
2 define common terms, abbreviations, drug classifications and name instruments related to pathological conditions, diagnoses and treatments;
3 pronounce medical terms.

Musical Instrument Making - Developing Skills (Part time)

Content:
The course will aim to develop a professional approach to the manufacture of musical instruments by introducing the use of machinery and jigs to improve the rate of production.
Advanced and alternative techniques in construction will also be taught. This will include looking at different types of instrument e.g jazz guitar, electric guitar, lute backed guitar etc and exploring the different techniques for inlay and decoration.
Completion of the course will be the construction of one instrument using a combination of the techniques taught.

NC Advanced Musical Instrument Making - Stringed Instruments (Full-time)

Aims:
This course is designed to equip the student with a range of specialist skills for employment/self employment in the field of Musical Instrument Technology. The flexible course content provides for articulation to other related higher level studies.

Duration:
1 Year Full-time August to June.

Content:
From the following range of subjects
. Communication Skills
. Musical Instrument Design
. Guitar Making or Violin Making
. Major Guitar Repairs or Major Violin Repairs
. Material Science
. Music Making: Solo Acoustic Guitar 3
. Instrument Finishing
The programme will be agreed following negotiation within a
course team and review procedure.
