History

Merseyside Safety Solutions was started in 2012 by Tom Platt as an independent Health and Safety consultancy and Training Company. Tom finished his contract with H M Forces after a 23 year career, during which time he had many Health and Safety responsibilities and roles across many different areas. In 2011 Tom decided he needed a formal qualification in Health and safety and passed the NEBOSH national general certificate with a Distinction. In the October he joined IOSH at the level of technician (Tech IOSH) and has become an IOSH approved trainer

Tom has had many years’ experience as an Instructor and trainer with H M forces and has been an Instructor at several schools of excellence. He has an ability to get the very best out of his students and holds a City and Guilds in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS). Tom is a flexible tutor and can accommodate for most learning styles and student needs. He can teach at the students workplace or at any location.

IOSH Managing Safely
IOSH Working Safely

Description

Merseyside safety Solutions provide Health and Safety Consultancy and Training and are IOSH approved trainers. We offer IOSH working safely and IOSH managing safely courses at competitive prices. All IOSH courses are certified and regulated by IOSH (the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health)
The courses are flexible and can be taught at the customer’s premises or at any other location. IOSH Working safely courses are 1 day in duration and start at £150 per person. IOSH Managing safely is a 4 day course and can be taught in a 4 day block, 2 x 2 day blocks or 1 day per week, depending on the customer’s needs. Managing safely courses start at £490. All course costs include course registration, tuition fees, work books and certificates. IOSH Working Safely provides the worker with an understanding of their role within the Health and Safety organisation of the workplace. The course consists of
1. Introducing working safely
This module stresses the realities of the human suffering behind the statistics and emphasises the importance of personal responsibility.
2. Defining hazard and risk
This module puts ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’ into Everyday language, and uses familiar Examples to show what can happen.
3. Identifying common hazards
All the main issues are covered in this Module – entrances and exits, work traffic, Fire, chemicals, electricity, physical and Verbal abuse, bullying, stress, noise and the Working environment, slips, trips and falls, And manual handling.
4. Improving safety performance
This module deals with systems and Processes, making sure that any jargon Is explained in easily understood terms.
5. Protecting our environment
A short but effective introduction to Waste and pollution leads into a look at How organisations and individual team Members can get involved in reducing Environmental impacts. Memorable and Thought-provoking facts and figures help Drive the point’s home.

Managing Safely is for managers and supervisors, in any industry and provides the Managers with an understanding of their duties and responsibilities under Health and Safety. The course covers the following topics.
1. Introducing Managing safely
Some managers may see health and safety as an add-on to their role. The first module makes it clear that managers are accountable for their teams.
2. Assessing risks
This module defines ‘risk’ and ‘risk assessment’. Risk assessments are introduced, and delegates carry out a series of assessments.
3. Controlling risks
Here the session tackles cutting risks down, concentrating on the best techniques to control key risks, and how to choose the right method.
4. Understanding your responsibilities
This module looks at the demands of the law, and introduces a health and safety management system.
5. Identifying hazards
All the main issues any operation has to deal with are covered in this module – entrances and exits, work traffic, fire, chemicals, electricity, physical and verbal abuse, bullying, stress, noise, housekeeping and the working environment, slips, trips and falls,
working at height, computers and manual handling.
6. Investigating accidents and incidents
The session starts with why accidents should be investigated, and goes on to cover why things go wrong, and how to carry out an investigation when they do.
7. Measuring performance
This module explains how checking performance can help to improve health and safety. Delegates learn how to develop basic performance indicators, and get to grips with auditing and proactive and reactive measuring.
8. Protecting our environment
A short introduction to waste and pollution leads into a look at how organisations and individual managers can get involved in cutting down environmental impacts
