The professional figure of the metalworker works within a metalworking industry, an industrial sector that concerns the processing of metals and the production of metal objects. Metalworking therefore uses the semi-finished products of the metallurgical industry to obtain finished products. The production of machinery or plants intended for productive sectors (for example textile machinery, agricultural machinery, construction machinery or factory plants) is a specific and crucial segment of this sector and is called instrumental mechanics. There are many sectors that make up the metalworking industry: production of machinery, plants, tools, metal construction, ships, airplanes and trains. That of the metalworker is a very old profession, which has been evolving with the development of new technologies. A job that includes different skills, holds many beautiful surprises and above all excellent career opportunities. Metal processing and the production of manufactured goods are the main focus, but that of the metallurgical industry is such a vast and multifaceted sector that it certainly cannot be "liquidated" in a few lines. The metalworker can test himself in many areas: the production of tools, machinery or systems, the creation of spare parts or components, metal carpentry, the construction of large machinery such as trains, airplanes, ships, cars. From small things, a good metalworker can move on to larger mechanical works. The springboard to become a metalworker is certainly practice. In fact, we speak of on-the-job training, that is, based on experience and on facilitated learning periods in the field. Internships and apprenticeships are in fact the best way if you want to get your nose in this sector and start becoming a professional.
