Course programme

Who is this course for?

Adults aged 19+ recovering from mental health conditions who are at a stage in their recovery where they are able to benefit from being and studying at college. The applicants should be at a stage in their recovery where they are ready to make a commitment to the course, attend regularly and be able to cope with the college environment.

What qualifications or experience do I need ?

Students will need to be able to demonstrate that they have Literacy skills at E2 or above, either through existing qualifications or by taking a test at interview. Students also need to have art skills sufficient to build a portfolio and achieve a qualification. Skills will be assessed on the course and an alternative module (Beginners' Art) is available for students not yet ready for the BTEC qualification. This course is one module on our Community Link programme - students also attend Core Modules in Personal and Social Development as part of the programme.

What will I study ?

Students will develop a range of techniques in 2D and 3D art and will also learn about art history, using the work of great artists to inspire their own work. Students can choose a variety of modules to suit their tastes and needs.

How will I be assessed ?

Students will build up a portfolio of artwork.

BTEC Art and Design Level E3 or Level 1

Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?

Materials are provided but the course will include trips to Art galleries by public transport and students are responsible for their own fares.
