As a NMC Registered Nurse (Adult) this programme will prepare you for registration as a midwife, with an emphasis on midwives as practitioners of normal childbirth, who provide competent compassionate care. You will have the opportunity to practice within the community, midwife led units and consultant units. Teamwork skills are a core requirement of midwifery practice and opportunities will be given for inter-professional education, where students are able to learn together, in order to promote good communication, collaborative practice and excellent client care. You will be taught from both a national and international perspective and will gain an understanding of global issues within a global economy.
The postgraduate programme runs concurrently with the pre-registration shortened undergraduate programme. It provides the opportunity for you to study at a higher level in order to gain a master’s degree. On successfully completing 120 level 7 credits, you will gain a postgraduate diploma and will be eligible for registration as a midwife with the NMC.
When in practice as a midwife, you will be eligible to enrol on the Masters Dissertation or Project Based Change module (60 level 7 credits) in order to achieve a MSc in Midwifery Practice.
During your programme you will be employed by one of two trusts: University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) or The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SATH). You will be required to follow your employing Trust’s employment policy throughout your programme.
