This short, university credit bearing course will develop your knowledge and understanding of the assessment, diagnosis and management of people presenting with minor injuries.
About this course
You will:
Be able to provide evidence of previous study at Level 5 or above in a related subject area including but not limited to health and social care, social work, health promotion or youth work
Be a health care professional with access to an environment where you will be able to apply your skills to achieve the individual module learning outcomes. This does not specifically need to be employment and could include voluntary work
If you are a registered nurse but do not have a degree qualification, once you’ve completed this module you could offset the 20 credits through recognised prior learning (RPL) towards our online BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (Top-Up) degree. This would reduce the number of modules you would need to study and the total cost of the course.
Alternatively, if you are a health and social care practitioner you may wish to offset the 20 credits by progressing to the online BSc (Hons) Integrative Health and Social Care (Top-Up) degree.

Course programme
You’ll develop knowledge and understanding of the assessment, diagnosis and management of people presenting with minor injuries. This will provide healthcare professionals with a solid theoretical foundation to inform future practice. Whilst the module does include examination techniques, it is not possible to assess the application of this knowledge within the students own clinical setting. As with all aspects of clinical practice, this would need to be agreed with the student’s employer, in line with regulatory body guidance and other national and local guidelines.
In this module we will cover:
- Clinical history taking examination and documentation
- Anatomy and physiology relevant to minor injuries
- Musculoskeletal examination
- Assessment of neurological function related to the limbs
- Assessment and management of common minor injury presentations eg: minor wounds, burns, minor head injuries, soft tissue injuries, eye injuries
- Analgesia relevant to minor injuries
IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) if you have not completed a programme at an English-speaking institution.
- When applying, it is essential that you submit the following:
- Qualification evidence awarded in your country
- Transcripts of all relevant education/training
- NARIC evidence
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 6.0* in all areas or equivalent qualification
