This advanced course will provide you with a deepunderstanding of mixing and mastering tools and techniques that you can apply to a wide variety of musical stylesto get a truly polished and professional sound. You will be working on Mac computers.

About this course

- Set up compressors and limiters appropriately and efficiently to control the volume and perceived loudness
- Apply effects on a finished mix to make it suitable for playback on different playback systems and media formats
- Apply EQ appropriately to make different musical parts fit together
- Use reverb and a range of techniques to give different parts depth of field in the overall sound
- Use panning more effectively to create a vivid stereo field
- Use a range of listening techniques and appropriate monitoring systems
- Choose appropriate routing options for mixing your music
- Check that a piece of music is ready for release on CD and other formats.
- Structure the volume levels of your instruments to improve the quality and dynamics of your mixes.

Memory stick/storage device for saving work, notepad and pen.

Classes will generally begin with a demonstration and discussion followed by practical work.
You will work on an individual Mac workstation to practise set themes, techniques and skills, applying these to your developing ideas and material.
You will present your work in progress regularly to the group and receive feedback, support and encouragement from your tutor throughout the course.
It is useful to have access to a Mac with Logic software outside class to work on your project between sessions.
